How to Apply

Please read through all of the information provided on this page prior to submitting your application to the program.   We also encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about the program or the application process.

Interest Form

The first step is to fill out an inquiry form. A member of our team will contact you to further discuss the program and next steps in the application process, and to answer any questions you may have.

Application Deadlines

The Bard-Smolny Program works on the basis of rolling admissions.   You are encouraged to apply in advance of the following deadlines.  

October 1st

Spring Semester

March 1st

Summer Language Intensive

April 1st

Fall Semester or Full Academic Year

Language Assessments
Applicants are required to undergo a Russian language placement testing.  We recommend that you request the assessment from us approximately one month in advance of the date you intend to submit your application.  The assessment must be submitted prior to submitting your formal application. 

Please contact us at smolny@bard.edu to request a copy of the language assessment as it is not included as part of the application packet above.

Passport and Visa

To secure your visa, Bard-Smolny must have an electronic copy of the information page of your passport at time of application. If you don’t have a passport or if it will expire less than 18 months after the end of the program, we ask that you apply for or renew your passport now.  Your passport must also have at least two blank pages. 

Student Handbook

We strongly encourage you to read through the information provided in the Bard-Smolny Student Handbook in advance of applying.  This handbook provides very important information on our program policies and procedures and as well as very practical information that can help you in preparing to take part in the Bard-Smolny Program.

Please note that the information in this handbook is for informational purposes only as our policies and procedures are subject to change.  You will be provided with a current copy of the handbook once you are accepted in the program.
