Bard-Smolny Cultural Program

The academic program at Smolny is supplemented by a cultural program that serves to better acquaint participants with St. Petersburg and Russia, as well as its culture and history. The program begins during the two-week Russian Intensive, when we will aquaint you with the city and introduce you to Smolny classmates. Events are held in Russian and participants have the right to invite Russian-speaking guests either from Smolny or their host families.

Every semester the program usually includes three performances (one opera, one ballet, and one play), three in-city excursions and three out of city excursions (one day-trip, one overnight trip, and a three-day trip, usually to Moscow). In addition there are several events held during the two-week orientation period, and we always have at least one student get-together (with Russian Smolny students), as well as beginning and end of semester banquets. The cost of all excursions is included in program tuition.
